The Summer Social Racing Series (SSRS)
The Series is for sailors who want to:
- keep sailing fun (It's all about the sailing!)
- keep sailing simple (Focus on the sailing - not the rigamarole)
- keep sailing affordable (Almost any dinghy/cat can race)
- limit the time-commitment required (for sailors and officials)
Back-to-Basics Racing
- No Start Boat or Mark-set Boat (We do it all ourselves)
- Self Scoring (Bring a watch or phone for timing your finish)
- Multiple Short Races
- All the sailing fun with less of the hassle
Who can Race?
- Members and non-members may race and will be scored- but only members will be eligible for annual prizes.
How are races scored?
- Any type of sailing dinghy may race under the Portsmouth Handicap (which allows boats of different designs to race equitably against each other)
- There will be separate monohull and multihull Divisions
- At the discretion of the Race Leader, as long as there are at least three (3) sailboats remaining
under Portsmouth, three (3) or more sailboats of one design may race in a separate start
as a class. If fewer than three (3) boats remain in Portsmouth the one-designers will start with the Portsmouthers (but may decide to score themselves as a class).
- Participants must race at least 60% of races sailed to qualify for the annual Portsmouth fleet awards.
Other things you may want to know:
- In order to sail, skippers must execute a hold-harmless form
- The races are started with an 3-minute collegiate starting sequence - sound signals only (automated)
- Rule 2 - "Fair Sailing" will be enforced with venegance - this is supposed to be FUN!
- DSA's members have a high level of trust - and finishing times may be self-reported at times - we hope that you will not break that trust.
